Hand Caning
This method of caning is time consuming and requires a lot of patience and stamina. The most common method of hole caning is the octagon pattern, which is made up of 7 stages. Each stage is individually woven through drilled holes around the perimeter of the piece, usually a chair seat or back. The cane comes in long lengths, sometimes up to 12', and there are different widths. The width to use depends on the diameter of the drilled holes. A properly caned seat can last for many, many years if treated properly.
